News has finally broke regarding the sudden shut down of ShareReactor. It appears the Swiss Judical Inquiry Department of Thurgau has taken the site down due to copyright infringement.
Well-known P2P site ShareReactor was taken offline due to the suspicion of breach of copyright and trademark laws the cantonal judicial Inquiry department of Thurgau has taken down an Internet-Site that served as a link platform for filesharing offerings.
A process concerning these matters against the 25 year old owner from Frauenfeld(Switzerland) is underway. The Internet-Site located in Frauenfeld was online for about 30 months and last had over 220.000 hits per day and it was taken offline by the Thurgau officials. At the end of September 2003 they collected over $8000 and in early 2004, they collected another $5000+ through donations form SR users.
The search engines top rated site worked as a anchorpoint for links to downloads of copyright and trademark protectet games and movies that were offered on the filesharing network. After a complaint from several large corporations, represented by the swiss association against piracy, the cantonal judicial inquiry department of Thurgau initiated an investigation, seized the servers in Frauenfeld and had the site taken offline.
As I know www.jigle.com is powered by the forces of sharereactor. That's what the owner of jigle.com is saying:
"The ShareReactor has been shut down due to legal issues and it is unclear whether and when it will return. Since my servers are hosted there I've decided to shut my services down even though it seems it was decided to kindly leave them running. Jigle won't continue, it's closed...."
A lot of people now are waiting for ShareReactor to come back. The chances are not that good. We'll see.
